Why join NoRTH?

We’re a small nonprofit with big goals: to help the over 1 million international students, scholars, teachers, and researchers in the U.S. file their taxes for free!

As an IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we are here to help people. The way we choose to do this is by providing tax services and tax education.

We focus on those who are federal tax nonresidents - generally international students, scholars, teachers, and researchers in the U.S. on an F or J visa. These individuals have complex tax requirements, limited tax knowledge, and few low cost or free options to meet their filing obligations.

We partner with government tax authorities, colleges, universities, and other organizations to recruit volunteers, train them in nonresident tax law, and then operate remote and in-person free IRS VITA tax clinics. We work to expand our capacity and reach through the development and use digital tools and services.
