Update Saturday Feb. 7, 2026:

We are no longer taking volunteer appointments for the VRC Pilot for this year.

If you have not booked your VRC Pilot appointment by now you will need to complete the standard VRC process using Moodle scenarios.

Volunteer Calendars for NRVTAP volunteers

Volunteer Event Descriptions

VRC Pilot - Two appointments required! Prepare tax returns using the traditional VITA processes at 2 tax clinics instead of completing VRC scenarios in Moodle! You will be in charge of the intake, interview, and tax preparation for 3 clients at each event. You will participate as your returns are quality reviewed by an experienced quality reviewer / tax preparer.

In-Person Clinic: In person tax clinic for UofMn - Twin Cities. Think of this as a guided work session - clients come in to the clinic in 2 waves to work on their tax returns. Clients will be preparing their own tax returns on their own computers. If they have questions or they want a review when their return is ready to file, they raise their hands and the volunteers go help them. You will be helping multiple clients throughout the event.

Long Road Trip to U of MN - Duluth: In-person clinic + road trip! Lunch and dinner will be provided for those willing to join us on the trip. This will be the same in-person format as at the regular in-person clinics, just with much better food (OK, more driving is involved, too!). Transportation is provided, pick-up and drop-off at Carlson School of Mgmt.

Medium Road Trip: In-person clinic + road trip! This is a shorter trip, so one meal before the event (lunch or dinner) will be provided for those willing to join us on the trip. This will be the same in-person format as at the regular in-person clinics, just with more food and driving. Transportation is provided, pick-up and drop-off at Carlson School of Mgmt.

Update on road trip destinations: MNSU Mankato on 3/18, 3/26, 4/6, 4/12. CSB/SJU on 3/28. Riverland Community College on 4/10

All remote events: Remote events are held through a zoom meeting, which is led by a site coordinator. The SC will put you in a breakout room, and you'll meet there 1:1 with a client. You can expect to answer questions from clients. Clients will also share their screen so that you can help them with TaxSlayer, as well as complete quality reviews of their finished return documents.

Remote Tax Clinic: In remote clinics clients rotate in and out of breakout rooms to get multiple sessions with volunteers.

Remote Office Hours: Office hours are one session and done with a client.
